Attempt at a spoken word

The Great Commission

A spoken word by – Elizabeth Williams

Introduction

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

It was Jesus’ last words before ascending to the sky

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

Jesus’ last thoughts before saying good-bye

And teaching them to obey everything I commanded you.

Jesus’ last teaching before leaving earth the first time

And surely, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Jesus’ last command before sending Help to our side

Jesus, the God-man, God With Us,

Who was given all authority

By His Father he commissioned us

To go into the world and to love

We call it: “The Great Commission”

Let’s break it down

Therefore Go

He didn’t DEFINE “Go”

He didn’t say “In order to GO you must travel 10,000 miles from your home.”

He just said “Go”.

Go is a verb, an action word.

It requires movement.

So don’t stay put, pick up your foot

Get out of your comfort zone,

Get out of your self, get off of the shelf

Look around and Go!

Go to your home

Go to your family

Go to your school

Go to your friends

Go to your enemies

Go to your state

Go to your nation

Go to your world

Go right next door or 10,000 miles away

Just Go!

When you go…

Make Disciples

To be a disciple is to follow whole heartedly.

You can follow someone and not be a disciple.

Distracted by the every day,

Not listening to what the leader has to say,

Keeping every thing at bay,

Getting in the way

Instead of walking with THE WAY,

Follow Jesus, whole heartedly

Don’t just go through life,

sitting by on stand by,

squeezing by with just enough life to scrape by

tongue tied.

Go through life IN CHRIST!

Understand who you stick by,

the GREAT SUPPLY,

and raise up a war cry

for this generation to go by!

Baptizing them

This is the physical act

That shows the world just where you are at

Dead to Sin and Alive in HIM

Christ the foundation, we are a new creation

It just got real.

 Teach them all my commands

All his commands… That’s a lot. Can we start with just one? As Judas left the Last Supper to betray Jesus to the temple leaders, Jesus said (Jn 13:34-35)

“A new commandment I give to you that you love one another,”

And He said it again (Jn 15:12-13) “This is My commandment, that you love one another,”

“even as I have loved you,”

“just as I have loved you.”

“that you also love one another.”

“By this all men will know that you are MY disciples, if you have love for one another.”

“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”

(I Cor 13:1-8a)Love is patient, Love is kind and is not jealous;

Can we love someone, even if they betray us?

Love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly;

Can we love them even if they betray us to our greatest earthly threat?

It does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,

Can we love them even if that betrayal could get us killed?

Does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;

That’s what Jesus did. He loved. Even those who betrayed him, even unto death.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never fails.

“Teach them my commands”

“This is my commandment, that you love one another.”

“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”

This is our commission, to love, even to the point of laying down our life for people.

We don’t have to do this great commission on our own.

Remember, the last part of the Great Commission?

 I Am With You Always

It’s a promise, that we are not alone.  “it’s not’s by might, nor by power, but by My spirit” says the Lord

He is with us.  HE is with us.  He IS with us.  He is WITH us. He is with US.  No matter how you look at it it’s a good thing.

GOD, who is love,

IS, not was,

WITH, not without,

US, not someone else.

Conclusion

So, If you are one who made the statement of faith that YOU believe that Jesus is who he said he is then stand up! Stand out! and do the great commission.

Go, Find your place in the world,

Make disciples, Follow Jesus and see other’s follow you.

Baptize them, After seeing God in you they will want Him too.

Teach them, All of his commands.

And remember, He is with you always,

That means we are not alone in this thing.

Christians, We’ve been commissioned

By the God of all Creation

Let’s go and make disciples

Of every tribe and nation

Baptizing them THEN Teaching them

Remembering who’s strength we do this in

Walk out these doors and “GO!”
